GENERAL INFORMATION
St. John's was organized by a group of local parents in October of 1968 (originally St. Christopher's Cooperative Nursery).

The teachers at St. John's Nursery School are college graduates with emphasis in English and early childhood education and all have many years of teaching experience.

We are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education.

The class size will not exceed twenty. All classes have not only a qualified teacher, but one or more helping parents.

On a rotating schedule, parents assist a qualified teacher in the care and instruction of children.  The role of this nursery school is to provide raw materials and first hand experiences from which the children will absorb and use knowledge in their own individual way. Creative play is a fundamental part of our school day. Through play children develop skills and confidence in their own ability to deal with the world around them.  We believe young children learn best when the activities are concrete, hands-on, multi-sensory, and open-ended with opportunities for creative problem solving.

We aim to promote the love of books and interest in learning to read, and to encourage good manners, concern for others, and mutual respect.

Our goal is to recognize the individuality of each child through an education program organized as a theme based curriculum with emphasis on colors, shapes,
numbers, letters, and large and small motor activities.

We also offer annual vision and hearing screenings provided by the Anne Arundel County Health Department.

SECURITY
All outside doors are kept locked except when being attended by a responsible adult. Children are dismissed only to parents or authorized adults.

We hold three Parent Council Meetings per year at which a speaker discusses subjects of interest or concern to parents of young children.
